Tangled Alphabets, a collection of works by León Ferrari and Mira Schendel is on show at the MoMA in New York City until June 15 2009. I was lucky enough to catch the exhibit, and was not, by any means, disappointed. Located at the top floor of the museum, make sure you plan enough time to get to it. Or start from the top down.
Ferrari, born in Argentinia, and Schendel, born in Switzerland, are thought to be two of the most important artists of the second half on the 20th century in Latin America.
Instead of using letters to form recognizable words to give ideas or express thought, the two artists used letters themselves as the subject matter, creating visually and mentally stimulating works.
