Fashionary

We had the pleasure of meeting up with Penter Yip in Hong Kong a few weeks ago and hear about his Fashionary. A great tool for any aspiring or established designer, this sketch book contains useful information, patterns, flat drawings, templates and more.

Besides learning about the book itself it was an inspiring conversation about how a somewhat unsuccessful design education was turned into something good and eventually led to the birth of the Fashionary in 2009. Today the Fashionary is available in selected stores around the world and on their website.

Teddy Bear Rugs

This is one splendid thing. Agustina Woodgate’s rugs are made from old teddy bears and incorporate thoughts around the rich culture a carpet can contain that goes well beyond that of a practical item in the home. She puts it so well herself on her website:

The process starts with the departure of the loving life Teddy Bears have when they are in the hands of their owners.The rugs not only reference the personal histories of the toy’s owners, but investigate the rug as an object organizing and displaying memories and lineages. In Eastern Cultures, the oriental rug centralizes the living space in pattern, operating beyond utility to depict the spiritual and mental world in woven form. Woodgate is particularly drawn to the specific meanings in the arrangement of rug designs, and how different histories of the rug represent stories of the past and ways of tracing archetypes in physical and material forms.
